Cafe Niederegger in Lubeck

Were a round through the city, and at the end a delicious piece of cake with it. Just delicious

Anyone who loves marzipan like me will feel in seventh heaven here. There is something for every taste. Coffee with cream, delicious cake, of course marzipan cake, great shopping and some marzipan must be in your luggage if you really want to visit Lübeck! If you don't want to, you can still visit the museum on the top floor for free.

Nice café, delicious cakes absolutely moderate prices. Only the system (order cake at the counter, but drinks at the table) was assumed to be known. The waitress seems a bit rude when we wanted to order the cake and she referred us to the counter. The rest was friendly and overall good :)

Niederegger Museum - we were here for the first time and loved it.

Very nice, traditional café where you like to stay longer. While on the ground floor the tourists push past marzipan figures en masse, on the upper floor you can enjoy the MUST when you are here. The classic Niederegger marzipan and nut cake. I drank hot chocolate with marzipan syrup with it - after that my sugar needs were covered for the next few days, but it is highly recommended. The service was friendly and super fast.

Right in the square with lots of outdoor seating. Limited menu as it's more for drinks and desert than lunch.

Not recommendable!!! Hygiene equal to zero, no control whether distances are kept, as with the narrow aisles. Even the staff doesn't tell anyone. Particularly in these times you should be extremely careful. Or does Niederegger have special rights in Lübeck ???

Nice ambience, very friendly staff, even in Corona times ... The cake is very tasty and not as sweet as it looks. The marzipan cake is delicious.

A must when you are in Lübeck. The service could be a little more attentive. You can see that they don't have to bother, because the guests come anyway - because of the name! However, the quality of the cakes and pies is extraordinary!

Great café with super friendly staff. If you want to enjoy a piece of cake, breakfast or just a coffee there, you should make a reservation. It's always full here. Very tasteful furnishings meet the finest baked goods. Always an experience. When we are in Lübeck, a visit to Niederegger is an absolute must.

Actually we wanted to eat marzipan cake ... But then we decided to have breakfast. Delicious and plentiful! 👍 Nice background music in the café - maybe a tad too loud? The service is friendly and quick. 👍We took the cake with us ...

If you visit Lübeck, try to avoid it if you can. The service is poor and the waiters are rude than I ever experienced. It worth taking photos around but no point to go to this cafe unless you want to be “surprised”. Variety it by yourself and share your experience. I wish you good luck. 😉

A visit to this café is actually a must when visiting Lübeck. We were served quickly and in a friendly manner. To get to us café you have to take a basket at the entrance and take it to the stairs at the back of the sales room. There you can put the basket. Then up the stairs. The cafe is upstairs. You can choose something tasty at the cake counter, and you get a piece of paper. Then you look for a table and give the waitress the note for the cake or cake. Then nothing stands in the way of enjoying the marzipan. When going out you will not be able to avoid buying something ... 😏. Too tasty.

The stars are there because it is simply the best marzipan in the world! In the cafe and in the sales room, some conditions / shop assistants are unfortunately quite stressed and therefore not that friendly. There is a harsh tone towards customers, which the Niederegger company might be able to turn off if they would hire a few more people .....

Great and cheap cakes in the café but horrible service

Despite the sometimes bad critics, we visited the café in the main building and were pleasantly surprised. When the weather is good, you sit directly on the historic town hall square, when it rains in the nicely furnished café on the 1st floor. Friendly service, very tasty cakes (not overly sweet, although they look like that), realistic prices. We thought it was good. Yes, the store is tight and the corona clearances are difficult to keep. You can and should try anyway.

It took about 10 minutes before we got a card .. Some guests next to us were served earlier and came much later. The cake was visually great, tasted good, but I've also eaten better. The waitress was unfortunately a bit rude and before we got the bill, we had to wait another 10 minutes. With the great reviews and prices, we unfortunately hoped for more.

Was there many years ago. For me it was a trip into the past + 1 piece of marzipan cake! Delicious as always. Service very friendly, a MUST in Lübeck!

A nice café which is also a pastry shop with many varies of marzipan products, besides that the shop includes a museum dedicated to the manufacture of marzipan. Worth visiting!

A dream come true - I love love love Marzipan. Obviously we needed to visit Niederegger while visiting Lübeck. It looks so grand and if you walk out not finding anything, then I can't help you 🤣 I recommend to go right when they open, so you do not need to wait in line and believe me there is one later on. You can have breakfast there or try one of their absolutely beautiful cakes. They taste even better then they look, if that is even possible. Go visit and get your fill of marzipan everything 😁

A day trip to Lübeck without a detour to Café Niederegger? Of course that is inconceivable for me. The selection of cakes is huge. Standing in front of the glass counter, my mouth is watering. Then I enjoy sitting on fine cushions, looking around these really beautifully designed rooms and thinking: If this is what paradise is like, then I want to go there too.

OMG, best best chocolate shop, I ever visited. It is famous for its marzipan production. I tried first time marzipan cappuccino here, and tasty. Best interior in the shop. Busy, but kind of a 'must' in Lübeck. Impressive selection marzipan products.

This was always going to be a must visit (there was ultimately more than one) for me, given I am a massive fan of marzipan. Excellent marzipan waffles, pastries, pancakes. The marzipan infused coffees were sadly too sweet for my liking.

Excellent confectionery of the highest craftsmanship! Quality and taste great and the selection as well (pies, cakes, tartlets, marzipan potatoes, rum balls, pralines and much more). There is also a nice selection of various hot drinks with special recommendations from the house such as marzipan coffee - with a biscuit and everything is served on good in-house china. Also very good value for money. The service was also very friendly and everything was extremely well-kept and welcoming. You can choose between self-service with ordering and payment at the counter and consumption in the cozy seating area with stylish and comfortable seating behind the sales area on the ground floor (with a view of the shop); large counter to take away at the entrance area or upstairs in the spacious, cozy café on the first floor above the shop area. If you want to sit outside, you can go to the arcade café opposite at the town hall. We were on the ground floor with self-service and also in the main café on the first floor. Service was very friendly, competent and attentive. No long waiting times and we sat beautifully and comfortably in the front area with a stylish interior and a direct view of the wonderful town hall. Toilets were also very clean and inviting. After visiting the café, you can visit the marzipan exhibition on the premises above free of charge, with historical information and exhibits.

Always delicious!! A must visit in Lübeck.

During Corona times you have to evaluate the lower sales area separately from the café because the sales area is far too full and nobody pays attention to the amount of tourists streaming in. Unfortunately, the distance cannot be maintained. The upper area (cafe) is wonderful. Of course there is a lack of space on the stairs .. 1.50m not achievable, but when you get to the top you will meet a very friendly and competent staff. Although the shop was very full, we quickly got a seat and the order was also very quick. The selection of cakes is huge and it is really tasty. Of course, such a piece of cake has its price (on average € 3.80), but this is still within reasonable limits. Paying was also uncomplicated and quick. The toilet was very clean and a cleaner is also on site.

One of the best bakeries every tried! Kind personnel, wide selection of sweets for a very interesting break in the afternoon. Definitely pleasant to add a cup of tea and have a talk in good company.

Unmissable in Lübeck! Great variety of marzipan, chocolate and variegated cakes of excellent quality. The service, especially in the upstairs cafe, is impeccable and courteous. Environment that can be improved in furnishings but with a pleasant retro touch. High level of cleanliness and attention to aesthetics and food presentation. Exquisite breakfasts. Affordable price. Was a very busy place, very overcrowded and no social distancing measures were being adhered. The staff was very rude, I tried to ask a question and they looked past me and ignored me and then very rudely pushed past me to get by . The cake was nice though.

Very beautiful place with old interior design and delicious cakes. The café is enormously big and you can enjoy your cake and coffee in peace, because there is not so much noise like in small restaurants. Enjoy it!

Really fun store with tasty souvenirs and some marzipan sculptures. There’s a nice selection of cakes but they’re just good. I’d go for the ice cream instead, particularly marzipan (of course) or walnut. Avoid the marzipan cappuccino unless you like liquid sugar.

I visited the Cafe at the 2nd floor. Lovely cakes. Fair prices. Horrible service, long waiting time, no help to get seated as a large family trying to navigate in the inflexible corona seating restrictions. Cake and coffee orders cannot be placed with the same waiter. Understaffed.

Service is very slow and not welcoming. We waited ten minutes unnoticed after arrival and eventually picked a table ourselves. Cakes are delicious, but their apple strudel lacks taste and seems as if it was deep frozen with an overcooked vanilla sauce. The style of the cafe is splendid though. Thus, if you love Marzipan, it’s the place to go. If you just look for a cafe, there are better places with more bang for your buck.

This is such a beautiful traditional German cafe with the best cakes. If you happen to be in the area (or ie around Hamburg) you must definitely visit. You can easily spend 3 hours in this cafe. On the ground floor is a marzipan (almond/sugar/chocolate) shop that also has fancy liquors, jams, icecreams, and biscuits for take away in fancy Niederegger bags / cool bags. The cafe in the back is the "fast/quick" cafe. If you walk the staircase one level up you arrive to the "fancy" cafe. You will be greated by a glass vitrine full of fancy cakes and tartes (also for take away). To the right you can enter the restrooms. The visible fancy-looking cleaners there are self employed and live off your donations so we usually give 1-2 €. the most popular seating in the cafe is if you walk to the very end glass windows with a view over Luebeck and the unique architecture. Again I would recommend a corner seat sourrounded by glass / the city. On your table you will find many menues and it is worth also looking at the snack section of the drinks menue as they have lovely things like fresh waffle with whipped cream and cherries, Fresh hot milk rice pudding with cherries and cinnamon and sugar, and alot of marzipan inspired hot drinks. The quality of the food is superb. The staff is dressed in fancy traditional cafe wear. You can read about the marzipan and niederegger cafe history from the brochures on your table and also head up the staircase behind the cake bar to enter a Marzipan Museum with a beautiful view over Luebeck and instagrammable picture walls. No visit to Lübeck is complete without a visit to Niederegger. Coffee and cake. The very best.

Tasty breakfast, but poor service. Took 15 min to come to us in the first place while the café wasn't full. Food also came before the drinks which almost took another 5 min. Food and drinks were very good. Still Wouldn't go there again and just buy something downstairs as a present.

Excellent experience. Marzipan capital of the world - splendind cake and coffee in the upstairs salon.

Don't ever write off Marzipan completely until you've tasted Niederegger Marzipan. It tastes nothing like the stuff you got to know on wedding cakes! So glad my friends persuaded me to taste it. And the shop exhibits alone make the visit a memorable occasion.
